Pull Printing with ScrewDrivers®

Tricerat's release of ScrewDrivers® v7.4 is on now available! This release includes new key features such as pull printing functionality and enhancements like our improvements for Linux users. Get a better understanding of how pull printing works with ScrewDrivers and what other features you can expect in this blog.

What is Pull Printing?

Pull printing references when a print job is sent to a single virtual queue and securely held until released. End users typically release the print job from whichever printer they choose that they have been given permissions to. Businesses are able to decrease paper waste, increase productivity, enhance the security of printed information, and simplify printing for their users all through the use of pull printing.

How Pull Printing Works

The new Pull Printing functionality in ScrewDrivers builds on the Hold and Release feature we released last year. Administrators are able to easily assign printers to end users through the ScrewDrivers Administration console. When an end user is assigned a printer through pull printing, they will default to that printer when sending a new print job. Users may have permissions to use more than one printer but this will be their new default printer.

Once a print job is submitted, it becomes a held job until the user releases it. An end user can open ScrewDrivers Printers on any platform (including mobile), view jobs that they have held, and release the print job to any printer they are assigned. All print jobs are set by default to expire after 24 hours as a part of our held print job cleanup that aims to eliminate waste and improve security for your organization. Admins are able to extend or alter the length of time until a print job expires as well in order to help manage abandoned print jobs.

ScrewDrivers v7.4 Enhancements and Updates

Another new feature found in ScrewDrivers 7.4 is a Linux agent which includes the ScrewDrivers Printers app. The self-service capabilities of ScrewDrivers is an important component for providing user productivity and a dynamic print infrastructure, also providing functionality to release held or pull print jobs. This latest release of ScrewDrivers also includes some minor updates and fixes.
